Olomouc through my new glasses

Už od 11 let nosím brýle. Nevím, po kom můžu být tak slepá. Nepochopím, kde jsem vzala tolik dioptrií a ještě astigmatismus. Rodiče mi vždycky říkali, že to je z toho, že jsem četla v šeru, ale internet říká, že to oči nezhoršuje, jen unavuje. Tak nevím, komu věřit. Možná to ale je tím, že jsem v deseti letech rychle vyrostla a tím se i moje oči změnily. Kdoví. Jasné ale je, že už od primy jsem musela nosit brýle, protože jsem ani z první lavice neviděla dobře na tabuli. A od té doby se to jen zhoršovalo, až do mých 19 let, kdy se to už konečně začalo ustalovat. V té době jsem vlastně i přestala pravidelně chodit k očnímu a na Mallorce jsem začala nosit kontaktní čočky. Kontaktní čočky jsem si oblíbila. Mohla jsem nosit sluneční brýle, nic mi na nose nepřekáželo, zvedlo mi to sebevědomí. Brýle jsem si oblékla jen výjimečně, vlastně skoro jenom když jsem měla zánět spojivek. Neměla jsem je ráda. Přišly mi nepohodlné, malé (nezabíraly celý můj zorné pole), neslušely mi, v létě mi svítilo slunce do očí a v zimě se zamlžovaly. Pak ale přišla móda větších brýlí a já jsem se rozhodla, že dám brýlím ještě jednu šanci. Tak jsem k 23. narozeninám dostala nové brýle. Ze začátku jsem si na ně nemohla zvyknout, nosila jsem je jen výjimečně, po večerech, abych si šetřila oči i čočky. Pak jsem si ale řekla, že zkusím ušetřit ekonomicky, a protože čočky jsou finančně náročnější, na podzim jsem začala nosit převážně brýle, až jsem si na ně tak zvykla, že mi teď přijde skoro divné vzít si čočky. Šetřím si je ale na léto, protože to zas budu potřebovat nosit sluneční brýle.

I have been wearing glasses since I was 11 years old. I have never found out how it was possible that I turned out to be so shortsighted with astigmatism when none of my parents were. My parents always said that it was, because I would read in low light, but the internet says that it just tires the eyes, not worsens. I don't know who should I trust. However, before I got glasses, I actually grew up a lot, so that might be connected to my eyes. Well, anyway... the truth is that I have been wearing prescription eyeglasses ever since I entered the sixth grade, because even from the first row, I couldn't see the letters on the blackboard clearly. Since then, it was only getting worse until I was about 19 years old. I went to Spain, got my first contact lenses, stopped going regularly to the eye doctor and was finally happy. I loved my contact lenses. I could finally wear sunglasses, there was nothing bothering me on my nose, and my selfconfidence got better. I would wear prescription eyeglasses only when I would get conjunctivitis. I didn't like my glasses. I felt they were uncomfortable, small, didn't really suit me, in the summer the sun was too bright and in the winter they got foggy once I stepped inside any building. However, the trend of bigger (kinda hipster) glasses came and I decided to give prescription eyeglasses one more change. So for my 23rd birthday, I got new glasses. In the beginning, I couldn't really get used to the, I wore them only occassionally or in the evening, but then I decided to save money. That meant wearing prescription eyeglasses more and contact lenses less. Last autumn, I started wearing mostly glasses and guess what! I actually got used to wearing them so much, that now wearing contact lenses seems strange.

Mnoho lidí, kteří nemají se zrakem žádný problém, si nedokáží představit, jak asi takový člověk bez brýlí vidí. Já mám na jednom oku -4,25 a na druhém -4,75 dioptrií. To znamená, že ostře vidím asi tak maximálně na vzdálenost 10 cm od mých očí. Dál to jsou už jen barevné šmouhy. Nejvtipnější je jít bez brýlí do bazénu, to se člověk musí pořád někoho ptát, kolik je hodin, aby věděl, kdy má odejít.

Many people that don't have any eye problems cannot imagine what it is for me to try to see something without glasses. I am short sighted with -4,25 dioptries on the left and -4,75 dioptries on the right eye. That meanst that I can see sharply up to 10 cm from my eyes. When it's further, I just see colorful blur. The worst has always been going to the swimming pool, because I had to ask for the time all the time to know when to leave.

No, vzhledem k tomu, že poslední dobou nosím dioptrické brýle pořád, je to na nich vidět. Před nějakou dobou mi eshop GlassesShop nabídl, že by mi poslal dioptrické brýle zadarmo, tak jsem souhlasila. Nikdy jsem si brýle online neobjednávala, i když jsem to párkrát zvážila v případě, že by ty brýle byly levné. Bála jsem se ale, jestli by mi sedly. Vybrala jsem ty nejmenší, které ale byly i tak větší, než ty, co mám, přepsala jsem všechny své dioptrické údaje, které jsem měla od očního lékaře a doufala jsem, že mi brýle sednou.

A while ago, I got approached by an online shop GlassesShop. The offered to send me a pair of prescriptiong glasses to try, and since I have been wearing my only pair that much, I decided to accept that offer. I had never before ordered a pair of glasses online, so I was worried if they would suit me. I think it's always a risk, but if you find cheap glasses, it's worth the risk. I spent quite some time going through the prescription eyeglasses offered at the website and chose 3 pairs that were most similar to my glasses. I also checked all the dimensions stated and out of those 3, I chose the smallest pair. I found the prescription from my eye doctor, filled out all the necessary data and waited for them to arrive.

Po nějaké době mi brýle konečně došly, tak jsem je nedočkavě otevřela a vyzkoušela. Myslím, že jsem se velikostí asi úplně nestrefila, jsou mi velké, ale jinak jsou vtipné. Když bych zhodnotila nabídku GlassesShop, jejich ceny jsou skvělé, brýle na předpis se dají sehnat za velmi nízkou cenu i se sklíčky zadarmo. To ale skýtá jednu nevýhodu. Pokud máte dioptrie tak velké jako já, tak oceníte, když jsou skla zúžená. Tato bohužel nejsou a tím, jak jsou brýle velké, tak sklíčko na kraji má tloušťku asi tak půl centimetru, což je pak na obličeji vidět a také to vytváří různé odlesky. To, jak mi sluší nebo sedí, můžete zhodnotit podle následující fotky a napsat mi svůj názor do komentáře. Já jsem se s nima ještě moc nesžila.

Pokud jste ale odvážní, tak se na ten GlassesShop můžete podívat a zkusit něco. Pokud máte větší obličej a určitě pokud nemáte tak velké dioptrie jako já, tak vám brýle sednou lépe. Výhoda je, že sklíčka jsou zadarmo, platí se jen obroučky. Já bych ale příště raději šla do nějakých slunečních brýlí, těch není nikdy dost :)

After a while, I got my pair of new prescription glasses in the mail. I opened them impatiently and tried them on. They look exactly as they were at the website and although I chose the smallest pair, I feel that they might be still a bit big for me.

The bit advantage is that the lenses come free, you just pay for the frames; however, if your eyes are as bad as mine, you might be surprised with the thickness of the lens.
